VOICE ✍ 002

[The following is a Police Conference Call. All members of the police, new and old, will hear this message.]

Most of you must have seen our holiday gift by now. We have a showy exhibitionist on our hands. We will not leave a dead girl to rot in an alley tonight.

All men on call, go to the Residential District. Search every alley. When you find her, send for the forensic team. Don't tamper with her until forensics arrives! You must leave her untouched! When the team is assembled the investigation will begin immediately.

Do not waste any time.

[The following is a private call to Naomi Hunter.]

There is a bad business going about, and I am very busy. I will not be coming tonight.

((PS, GUYS: I won't be starting a log for this and assume things are handwaved, but if any of you are interested, feel free. I'll jump in as necessary.))

[While her irritation with the situation has been very mild till this point, a flash of real anger flickers across the woman's already tense expression. It dies down, however, even more quickly than it had risen up, her rage shoved down forcefully as her lips press into a line.

After all, no matter what Javert may have thought, the doctor's reasons for becoming so upset are anything but selfish. Naomi can deal with the man canceling their plans to instead turn his attention on work. She has casually brushed away all annoyance she`s felt when it came to waiting for him to show up for dinner on days when he'd been forced to stay late. And even more against her character, she hadn't spoken a word when his attention, which is very consistently off who knows where, was not being thrown and lavished on her.

No, she has taken the 'small things' in stride without complaint. But it's this, the unending hours, the period of crisis in which Javert will get little to no sleep for days that crosses a line for her. Because she knows as well as he does that despite the vast amount of time he has spent working hard for his superiors and for a city that doesn't show him the respect he deserves, he will not be allowed time to recover after this late night out. After a full day of work, he will spend the entire night out looking for a murderer, and even if he is lucky enough to close the case in one evening, he will still be called out for another full day of work without a single pause for rest.

And it's beyond ridiculous and nearly insulting. Javert is not some twenty-some young intern who can easily handle that kind of work load. No, he is a middle aged man in his fifties with a semi-serious health condition.

He may be very blunt and open with admitting that he had died back in his world, but if this kind of treatment continued, he would likely drop dead a second time before he reached sixty.

Still, Naomi held her tongue, because he was right in some sense and it wasn't the time to argue.]

Yes, I heard you. Go ahead. I'll let myself out, Inspector.

[And she promptly hangs up before he can get another word in. They can speak after his thirty-six hour or so shift is over.]
