[Javert's cold, stern expression, resplendent with authority, appears on this video announcement. To those who know him there are two aspects of his personage that are immediately out of the ordinary: the first is his lack of top hat, which he never leaves home without. The second is the bright pink-and-orange cloth adorning his shoulders. What is is that the good Inspector is wearing today, and what has happened to his thick woolen all-weather greatcoat?

Well. It turns out it's a Hawaiian-print shirt. Who would have thought Javert to be so festive (and unprofessional) for these summer months?

That's because he truly isn't.]

Considering recent events, the Somni City Police Service wants able men to fill new vacancies on the force. All departments are hiring, and the Police Training Academy will begin at the month's end as a requirement for new officers on duty. Compensation will be arranged according to the standard police salary schedule and assigned rank.

--There is also another matter of some importance: Let me remind the Public that suspicious activities must be called in to the police quickly. Police call boxes are placed around the city, or you may call or send for an officer at the nearest station in your district.

[Judging from Javert's loud-coloured shirt, Mac supposes the guy is soaking up the sun and enjoying some time away from work; cops need vacations, after all.]

Actually, officer, somethin' a lil' weird happened not too long ago. This big guy with an eye-patch was givin' me the creeps. He didn't hurt me or nothin', but he came chargin' at me real fast n' I had t'get the heck outta the way. Think he wanted to punch me, iunno. [The kid rubs his head sheepishly after a moment, feeling vaguely responsible.] ...I was tryin' to explain t'him what boxin' was all about 'cause he didn't know, n' I think he took it real seriously.

[An indecipherable flicker passes through Inspector Javert's eyes, but before Mac could even begin to comprehend what it could mean, it is gone. Javert regards Mac calmly and critically. He has carefully absorbed every word despite Mac's less-than-proper accent.]

This concerns me, I think, [remarks Javert slowly and thoughtfully. He raises his chin just a little higher.]

You will speak a full report with the central police headquarters. It is in the Government District, central sector. Request the attention of Chief Inspector Javert and Prosecutor von Karma. It will receive proper attention.

[He's been thinking about this for some time, more or less since his arrival. There's hardly a HeroTV here to go to, after all, but there remains a need for money (and, perhaps, a need to protect). His conversation with the Chief Prosecutor only encouraged him, and this seems to be the perfect opportunity.]

[Now, Noel nearly felt embarrassed by her mistake, not being the brightest crayon in the box and all. However, his last statement actually surprised her. She never had been acknowledged by her division back home, so she couldn't help but feel pleased by that tiny praise.]

Not of the catastrophe type, Inspector, but it is indeed a matter I wished to discuss privately with you before execution.

It has come to my attention that a good many "dreamers" here, or otherworldy citizens, if you will, possess abilities far above the norm. In light of recent events, such individuals will be useful provided they can be initiated into service.

It is my plan to recruit as many of these as possible, diving them into squads based on ability and talent. Disasters will go much smoother if we have a more cohesive understanding of each other's strengths and weaknesses; indeed, I've spent my entire career doing the exact same thing.

What is your age? You are a teenager?

[Oh, Asbel will get work either way, but age will determine whether he will be dropped into apprenticeship or the full police academy. Javert is quite a bit too old to accurately estimate the teenager's legality.]

[Welp, working for the police sounds like something Armstrong can manage just fine. After all, this is just what he did back home: go after criminals and bring them to justice. Not the mention he was quite good at it.]

This sounds quite interesting. I have some prior experience in this line of work since I'm part of a law enforcement unit back home. But I'll be willing to take any tests that might be needed for me to join.

Tests are unnecessary, but I will need a thorough description of your experience and skills. You will go to the Government District Police Headquarters at the center square and write an application with the administrative coordinator. Any decent map will show you the way. It is not hard to find.

[A pause. Javert raises his eyes and examines this fellow on the other end of the line. He certainly looks closer in age to the good Chief Inspector, and it is a welcome refreshment compared to the teenagers that come in expecting a position of rank. He scrutinizes the mustached man carefully and thoughtfully, an authoritative and cold air to his manner.

At length, he asks abruptly,]

[There is a twitch at the corner of Javert's jaw while he scrutinizes this young woman carefully. Perhaps Naoto might find herself feeling more like a laboratory specimen than a worthy applicant of the police, as if this forbidding man (in a Hawaiian shirt??) were attempting to read her very soul... and judge her for it.]
